Our adventure begins with an early morning pick-up from your hotel in Cusco between 5:30 and 6:00 a.m. We depart in our private transportation toward Manu National Park, traveling through the impressive landscapes of the Andes, crossing high mountain valleys and traditional villages.
Along the way, we visit the Chullpas de Ninamarca, ancient pre-Inca burial towers belonging to the Lupaca culture. We continue to Paucartambo, a charming colonial town known for its traditions, colorful culture, and historic bridge.
From Paucartambo, we ascend toward Acjanaco Pass (3,550 m / 11,647 ft), the entrance point to Manu National Park. From here, the landscape transforms as we descend into the lush cloud forest, home to incredible biodiversity.
During the journey, we stop to observe the famous Cock-of-the-Rock, Peru’s national bird, known for its vibrant colors and unique courtship displays. We continue toward Pilcopata, where we spend our first night surrounded by the beauty of the cloud forest.
After breakfast, we continue deeper into the Amazon region by private transportation, passing through small communities and tropical landscapes until reaching Atalaya, located on the banks of the Alto Madre de Dios River.
Before arriving, we make stops along the way for short walks to observe tropical birds, butterflies, plants, and orchids of the cloud forest.
At Atalaya, we board our motorized canoe and begin a scenic river journey through one of Peru’s most biodiverse ecosystems. Along the riverbanks, we may spot herons, kingfishers, vultures, caimans, turtles, and several species of monkeys.
In the afternoon, we arrive at Dorado Lodge. After settling in, we enjoy a guided night walk searching for nocturnal wildlife such as frogs, insects, and other rainforest creatures.
After breakfast, we continue our boat journey toward the protected Reserve Zone of Manu National Park, entering deeper into the Amazon rainforest.
We pass through the Limonal Guard Station, where our permits are checked before continuing upriver into the untouched wilderness.
During the navigation, we enjoy incredible wildlife opportunities along the riverbanks, including white caimans, turtles, capybaras, colorful birds, and with luck, larger species such as tapirs or jaguars.
By afternoon, we arrive at Casa Matsiguenka Lodge, a traditional native-owned lodge operated by the Matsiguenka community. The lodge offers a unique experience surrounded by pristine rainforest.

Today we explore some of the most spectacular wildlife areas in Manu Reserve Zone.
After breakfast, we visit Cocha Salvador Lake aboard a floating catamaran, offering excellent opportunities to observe Amazon wildlife. We may see giant river otters, black caimans, hoatzins, herons, monkeys, and many species of tropical birds.
We continue with a guided jungle walk through the surrounding rainforest trails, learning about medicinal plants, ancient trees, and the incredible biodiversity of Manu.
Later, we visit Cocha Otorongo Lake and climb the observation tower overlooking the forest and lake, searching for wildlife from above.
Return to Casa Matsiguenka Lodge for dinner and overnight.
After breakfast, we begin our return journey by boat along the Manu River, enjoying more opportunities to observe the wildlife and landscapes of the Amazon.
We continue toward Dorado Lodge, located in a strategic area for rainforest exploration and wildlife observation.
In the afternoon, we explore nearby trails through primary forest and visit viewpoints overlooking the river, where we can observe birds, monkeys, and the incredible sunset over the jungle.
After dark, an optional guided night walk offers the chance to discover nocturnal animals of Manu.
After breakfast, we board our boat and travel upstream along the Alto Madre de Dios River, surrounded by breathtaking Amazon scenery.
During the journey, we continue wildlife observation, looking for birds, monkeys, and other rainforest species along the riverbanks.
On the way, we may visit natural hot springs, where you can relax in the warm mineral waters (optional activity).
By afternoon, we arrive at our rainforest lodge, where we enjoy our final evening in the Amazon jungle.
A final optional night walk allows us to experience the sounds and mysteries of the rainforest after sunset.
After breakfast, we begin our return journey to Cusco.
We travel by boat back to Atalaya, enjoying our final views of the Amazon landscape and possible wildlife sightings along the river.
From Atalaya, we continue by private transportation through the cloud forest and Andes, making stops along the way for photos and lunch.
We arrive in Cusco approximately at 6:00 p.m., ending an unforgettable 7-day Manu Reserve Zone adventure.
