Day 1. Day 01: Cusco – Cloud Forest – Pilcopata.

Manu Jungle Tour

We depart from Cusco at 5:30 a.m. in our private transportation, beginning an unforgettable journey through the impressive landscapes of the Andes and the gateway to the Amazon. Along the way, we travel through picturesque Inter-Andean valleys, traditional villages, and local farming communities, offering a unique opportunity to experience the authentic rural life of Peru. During the morning, we visit the fascinating archaeological site of Ninamarca, home to ancient pre-Inca burial towers known as “chullpas,” which reveal the history and traditions of the region.

Continuing our adventure, we arrive at Paucartambo, a charming colonial town famous for its cultural traditions, historic streets, and vibrant heritage. From here, we ascend towards the Abra of Acjanaco, located at 3,850 meters above sea level, where we enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the Andes before entering the spectacular Manu National Park route.

As we descend into the cloud forest, the scenery transforms into a lush ecosystem filled with extraordinary biodiversity. This unique environment is home to many native species, including the Andean Bear (Tremarctos ornatus), the Cock of the Rock, Peru’s national bird, as well as a variety of orchids, bromeliads, and ferns. This part of the journey offers an incredible jungle adventure experience surrounded by the natural beauty of the Peruvian Amazon.

During our exploration of the cloud forest, we visit a special observation area where travelers can witness the impressive display of the Cock of the Rock as the birds perform their colorful courtship rituals. At the end of the day, we arrive at our rainforest lodge, the perfect place to begin our wildlife exploration and immerse ourselves in the incredible biodiversity of Manu National Park and the Amazon rainforest.

Day 2. Pilcopata – Atalaya – Rainforest Lodge.

Manu Amazon Peru

After breakfast, we continue our journey in our private van towards the port of Atalaya, traveling through the changing landscapes that connect the Andes with the Amazon rainforest. Along the way, we visit local plantations where we learn about traditional crops such as coca, bananas, and pineapples, gaining insight into the daily life and agricultural practices of the local communities.

Upon reaching Atalaya port, we board a motorized boat and begin navigating the river towards our next jungle lodge. During this scenic boat ride, we have the opportunity to observe the incredible wildlife of the Amazon, including capybaras along the riverbanks, herons, kingfishers, and vultures. One of the highlights is spotting the impressive King Vulture (Sarcoramphus papa), known as the “king of vultures,” creating a memorable Amazon rainforest adventure experience.

After lunch at the lodge, we spend the afternoon exploring the surrounding rainforest trails. With some luck, we may encounter different species of monkeys, colorful macaws, and toucans in their natural habitat. As night falls, we begin a guided night walk to discover the hidden creatures of the jungle, including spiders, lizards, frogs, and tarantulas, revealing the fascinating nocturnal life of the Amazon.

To complete the day, we climb an observation tower to enjoy birdwatching from above the forest canopy, offering a unique perspective of the rainforest and enhancing this unforgettable Manu wildlife experience. 1. The best guided tour I’ve ever done!

I can’t say enough good things about this tour – we had an amazing time! Plan to be gone all day, as it’s a long but comfortable drive through NV, UT, CO, and. AZ. It was a hot day, but hey, we chose July so that’s on us, but the sky was crystal clear, providing us with some magical views of Lake Powell, Horseshoe Bend, and Antelope Canyon.
